VIENTIANE, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The Lao National Assembly (NA) has approved a number of resolutions, providing strong legal back up for the government to address challenges in land management, reforestation and human resource development in the country.

A parliament conference Tuesday adopted seven resolutions, which aims to provide legal back up for the government and judiciary to perform their duty, local daily Vientiane Times on Wednesday quoted the Assembly President Pany Yathotou at saying in the closing ceremony of the seventh session of the eighth legislature of the Lao NA on Tuesday.

"The adoption of these important resolutions will provide the legal foundation for the government to continue performing its role in supervising and leading sectors and local authorities as well as to mobilize public support to address the country's economic and financial difficulties," she said at the conference.

According to Pany, some of the approved resolutions included the NA's recommendation for the government to more effectively implement the national socio-economic development and budget plans, and how to address the issuance of duplicated land titles. In addition, the assembly approved resolutions which demand the government to identify appropriate policy and measures to expand the nation's forest coverage and increase the supply of skilled workers for the poverty reduction projects.

In the NA session closing ceremony, some lawmakers expressed strong support for the assembly's resolution to supply more teachers, nurses and agriculture specialists to rural communities so they could have greater access to these critical state services. However, they said the government should pay greater attention to their management, and if it had appropriate measures and policies, more people would leave the cities to work in rural areas.

The members of the parliament also approved the appointment of Khampha Sengdala as the president of the People's Supreme Court and Vidong Xayasone as a minister to the Prime Minister's Office. The two senior officials served as vice president of the Supreme Court and governor of Vientiane province respectively.

The NA also approved several laws and amendment, namely the Law on Taxation Management, Law on Income Taxes, Law on Excise Taxes, Law on Land, Law on Forest, Law on Vocational Education and Law on Disaster Management.
