HEFEI, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese experts have promoted prefabricated construction, which is considered more efficient and energy-saving, in line with the country's goal of green development at an industry summit.

Compared with traditional ways of construction, prefabricated construction can help save 60 percent of water, 20 percent of energy and 30 percent of the time used in traditional construction methods, according to a summit held Friday in the city of Chizhou in eastern China's Anhui Province.

Around 400 experts, scholars and entrepreneurs across China gathered in the city for the 2019 Prefabricated Building Industrial Development Summit, exchanging views on the opportunities and challenges the country faces in the industry.

Prefabricated construction, which uses ready-made structures for buildings, has the advantages of high efficiency, energy saving and environmental friendliness, experts say.

It can also cut the labor force and ensure project quality, according to Gao Jun, general manager of Anhui Baoye Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd.

According to statistics, about 2 billion square meters of buildings are built across China each year. At the moment, less than 5 percent of the buildings are built using prefabricated components.

China has set a goal to increase the use of prefabricated materials to 30 percent of newly-built houses in 10 years.
