BRUSSELS, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said Sunday upon arrival at a key European Union (EU) meeting here in Brussels that he is against Frans Timmermans nominated as President of the European Commission.

Leaders from the 28 EU member states are arriving for the evening's special meeting to decide on their nominees for top EU jobs.

Latest media reports said that Dutch politician Timmermans, current First Vice-President of the European Commission and the lead candidate of the Party of European Socialists -- the second largest group in the European Parliament, has emerged as frontrunner.

Timmermans, however, is widely seen as opposed by central European countries, which might work to block his nomination to the bloc's top post.

Babis, when asked on Timmermans, said: "I'm afraid that this person is not really the right one to unite Europe... because in the past we have a feeling that he was not very positive on our region. And we need some geographic balance. And I'm also asking: where are the women? We need more women."
