Djibouti's president meets China's senior political advisor

DJIBOUTI, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Monday met with a delegation from the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference led by Vice Chairman Gu Shengzu, in Djibouti.

Gu conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Djiboutian president.

Gu, who noted that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, stressed that China and Djibouti have been enjoying closer cooperation over the past four decades period.

No matter how the international situation changes, the relationship between China and Djibouti has been developing steadily during the past four decades period, and the two countries have become good friends, good partners and good brothers who trust each other in win-win cooperation, Gu said.

Gu, who called for a closer China-Djibouti relations and further strengthening mutual cooperation, also emphasized that the two countries have in recent years witnessed growing bilateral relations amid numerous high-level meetings among the two countries leaders.

Chinese President Xi and Djibouti's Guelleh have met three times during the past three years period and promoted bilateral relations to the bilateral strategic partnership level, Gu noted.

Gu also affirmed China's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Djibouti under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and promote the building of a community with a shared future among the two countries.

Hailing the time-tested friendship between the two countries, Guelleh on his part expressed his country's satisfaction concerning the smooth development of China-Djibouti relations over the past 40 years period.

Guelleh also reiterated that his country will continue to work hard to promote the continuous development of bilateral relations with China.

The Djiboutian president also requested Gu to convey his cordial greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Gu, as part of his visit, also held talks with the Djiboutian Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, as well as the Speaker of Djibouti's National Assembly Mohamed Ali Houmed.
