MOSCOW, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday that it welcomes the meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), in the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom on Sunday.
"We believe the normalization of relations between the United States and the DPRK, between the DPRK and the South Korea, as the Russian-Chinese 'road map' stipulates, is an integral component of the solution to the nuclear and other problems of the Korean Peninsula," it said in a statement.
Russia will continue to work closely with key partners in the interests of a comprehensive settlement of the situation on the peninsula, it said.
Trump and Kim made a historic handshake on Sunday, standing on the two sides of the inter-Korean military demarcation line (MDL).
Together with Kim, Trump crossed the MDL into the DPRK side of Panmunjom, becoming the first sitting U.S. president to set foot on the DPRK territory.
