"Spiderman: Far from Home" still dominates Chinese mainland box office

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- "Spiderman: Far from Home," the sequel to the 2017 "Spiderman: Homecoming," continued to dominate the Chinese mainland box office on July 1, Monday.

On the fourth day since hitting the big screen in China, the latest film of the acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe raked in about 82.8 million yuan (12.1 million U.S. dollars) in ticket sales, accounting for more than 70 percent of the total Chinese mainland box office revenue of the day.

Ranked second is the Oscar-winning Japanese animated film "Spirited Away." On its eleventh day of screening, the celebrated work of Japanese animation guru Hayao Miyazaki grossed 13.02 million yuan, with its total box office adding up to just shy of 400 million yuan.

The fourth installment of Pixar's trademark "Toy Story" series took third place with a daily box office revenue of 4.66 million yuan.

It is followed by the domestic horror film "Mortal Ouija," which pocketed about 2.5 million yuan on Monday.
