BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Several Chinese authorities have jointly issued a circular calling on Party members, officials, soldiers and veterans to learn from Zhang Fuqing, a 95-year-old war hero who was recently honored by the country.

Zhang, who retired from the army in 1955 and had worked in a remote county since then, is a role model for all Party members in China in the new era, according to the circular issued by the organization department and the publicity department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission.

Zhang served as a soldier with the Northwest Field Army, one of the main forces of the Chinese People's Liberation Army during the Liberation War. He was twice awarded the honorary title of "Combat Hero."

After retiring from the army, he chose to work and devote his life to the poverty-stricken mountainous areas in the county of Laifeng in central China's Hubei Province.

Party organizations at all levels should encourage Party members, officials, soldiers and veterans to work diligently and strive to improve people's wellbeing, the circular said.
