TUNIS, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Defense Minister Abdelkarim Zbidi on Tuesday met with visiting Italian Chief of Defense Staff Enzo Vecciarelli.

The meeting focused on Tunisian-Italian cooperation in military and the security situation in the region, according to a Defense Ministry statement.

Zbidi praised Italy's efforts to support Tunisia's development and enhance the security in the North African country.

"The fight against cross-border terrorism requires a comprehensive approach that takes into account the political, economic, social and educational aspects on the basis of a partnership between countries," he said.

Regarding the situation in Libya, the Tunisian minister highlighted dialogue as the best way to resolve the crisis.

For his part, Vecciarelli said Italy will continue to support Tunisia in the security field, adding the two countries share the same vision with regard to the situation in the region, particularly in Libya.

"The dialogue between the different Libyan factions and an immediate cease-fire are the only way to restore security and stability in this country," he concluded.
