TRIPOLI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday expressed its concern over airstrikes near a migrant detention center in the capital Tripoli.
"UNHCR is extremely concerned about news of airstrikes targeting Tajoura detention center East of Tripoli, and accounts of refugees and migrants deceased. Civilians should never be a target," UNHCR tweeted late Tuesday.
According to local health officials, an airstrike hit Tajoura detention center, leaving nearly 40 people dead and dozens of others wounded.
Libya has been suffering escalating violence and political instability since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
