NAIROBI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Two of the six fastest women in history of 10km race led by Fancy Chemutai and London champ Brigid Kosgei will attempt to lower the time at the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on Thursday.

Chemutai is returning to action after shaking off her ankle injury, which aggravated in her only race this year in Prague, forcing her to drop out midway in the half marathon.

However, Kosgei has been in top form this year winning in Houston and London marathon races against some of the world's best marathoners.

However, in Atlanta, the focus will be on improving on the course record of 30:32, set by Lornah Kiplagat in 2002.

"I have had problems with the ankle and I hope it will be hold tight ahead of the race and challenge for the title," said Chemutai on Wednesday.

"The cross over to the marathon is important but I still need to get some consistency after the injury."

Rich Kenah, executive director of Atlanta Track Club, said the women's line up is the best they have had in the recent past.

"Our event records are tough, but all four fields - men's and women's are led by athletes who are aiming to break them and capable of doing so. So let the clock start and the racing begin," said Kenah.

Kosgei, 25, clocked 29:54 on a downhill course in Madrid on New Year's Eve, which ranks as the second best all-time. Kosgei, winner of Chicago and London marathon races, hasn't lost a race since last September.
