Wu Qinglong appointed Qingdao head coach

QINGDAO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- CBA team Qingdao announced on Wednesday that the club has signed a contract with Wu Qinglong to take the role of head coach.

Wu Qinglong told Xinhua that "Qingdao is a team full of hard-working and innovative spirits. Players, coaches and managers are showed their great potential and strong determination. Qingdao has signed many talented players to reinforce the team during last season."

"We will face severe challenges in the coming season, but the high expectations of the club and the fans will drive us to work unremittingly to win," added Wu.

The team has recently undertaken a close-door training session in Yunnan province to sharpen their skills.

"In the games with Spain and Lithuania in Tianshui, Gansu last week, Qingdao's good performance was proof of results of the training," said Wu. "We are going to meet Zhejiang and Jiangsu respectively on July 6th and 8th. We will go all out to prepare for the summer league after these two games."

Wu Qinglong, born in 1965, was the guard of Chinese men's national team and started his coaching career in 1997 after he retired as a player. Wu has also worked as the head coach in the national youth team and the Chinese Olympic team, and the assitant coach of the national team. Wu has coached many CBA clubs including Liaoning.
