BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China's national observatory on Thursday renewed a yellow alert for high temperatures as a persistent heatwave continued to scorch northern, central and eastern regions of the country.

The provinces of Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Shangdong, Henan, Gansu and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will see high temperatures ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Temperatures in some parts of Hebei, Henan, Shandong and Xinjiang could reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, the observatory said.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall will hit several regions in northern, eastern and southern China from Thursday evening to Friday evening, with parts of Yunnan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces seeing rainstorms.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
