Tanzania reduces foreign budget dependence to 4 pct: PM

DAR ES SALAAM, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said on Friday the government has reduced foreign budget dependence from 12.5 percent in 2017/2018 financial year to 4 percent in 2019/2020 financial year.

Majaliwa said the government will continue reducing foreign funding in its budget, which he said was basis for creating a middle income status by 2025 under the leadership of President John Magufuli.

He was speaking at the 53rd Executive Meeting of the Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam where he represented President Magufuli who is on a short vacation in his native village of Chato in northwest Tanzania.

"The improvement of the budget is done in tandem with the development of social services such as education, water and reduction of poverty," the premier told the meeting which was also used to raise funds for the CCT's investment projects.
