DAMASCUS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The visiting UN special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on Tuesday said that he is going to discuss ending the fighting in Syria's Idlib provinve with Syrian government officials.
Speaking upon arriving in the capital Damascus on Tuesday, Pederson said he hopes to have constructive discussions on different files with government officials, which will start on Wednesday.
"I am looking forward to having what I believe constructive discussions on how to move the political process foward," he said.
He said talks will touch upon the formation of the constitutional committee "as it's a door opener for a broader political process."
"I am also looking forwawrd to having discussions on how we can end the fighting in Idlib," he said.
He noted that talks will also include the file of the abductees and missing persons.
The fight in Idlib province in northwestern Syria is a game changer in the Syrian war as Idlib is the last major rebel stronghold in Syria.
The fighting in Idlib and nearyby areas Hama countryside has been raging since April.
The Syrian government says it's fighting terror groups in Idlib, stressing resolve to capture all Syrian areas from opposition militant groups.
