KUNMING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province seized 30.96 kg of methamphetamine and detained five suspects in two recent drug trafficking cases, local authorities said Wednesday.

After receiving tip-offs regarding drug trafficking in early July, police in the city of Baoshan sent separate task forces to the city of Pu'er and Lancang County to investigate.

On July 6, the police seized 40 packages of methamphetamine weighing 22.19 kg from a vehicle and captured five suspects in Pu'er. Another case was busted in Lancang on the same day, with 8.76 kg of methamphetamine found from a truck.

The suspects have been put under criminal detention. Further investigation into the two cases is underway.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle known for its rampant drug production and trafficking.
