VIENNA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The Vienna International Airport has reported a strong 19.7 percent increase in passenger numbers year-over-year in June to see them climb to 2,985,210, the airport's administration said in a press release Wednesday.
It said local passenger traffic at the nation's largest airport increased a considerable 25.4 percent, while transit passenger numbers were up a modest 3.1 percent.
Passengers heading to both Eastern and Western Europe were up about 20 percent, while those headed to North America were up 35.6 percent, to the Middle East up 22.2 percent, and to Africa up 17.3 percent.
Aircraft movements were also up a significant 12.9 percent.
Freight volume at the airport was, however, down 12.7 percent compared to the same month last year.
Across the first six months of the year the passenger numbers were up 23.9 percent to a total 14.7 million, the airport administration said.
