ATHENS, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The jobless rate in Greece fell in April below 18 percent, to a record low level since June 2011, the country's statistics service Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) revealed on Thursday.
Unemployment reached 17.2 percent in April, compared with 19.8 percent in April 2018 and with 18.2 percent in March 2019.
According to the Labor Force Survey conducted by ELSTAT, the number of unemployed persons amounted to 833,858 and their number decreased by 107,290 compared to April 2018 and by 26,925 compared to March 2019.
Younger persons aged 15 to 24 years old and 25 to 34 years old bore the bigger burden of unemployment. About three out of ten young people remain with no job. At the peak of the decade long Greek debt crisis the rate was six in ten.
For women, the jobless rate (21.7 percent in April 2019 from 24.4 percent in April 2018) remains significantly higher than that for men (14.5 percent from 16.1 percent), Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
