RIO DE JANEIRO, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's agricultural harvest is forecast to be 236 million tons for 2019, up 4.2 percent from last year, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said Thursday.

The figure is 0.6 percent higher than the projection released in May and would be one of the largest in Brazil's history, second only to the 240.6 million tons harvested in 2017.

A factor behind the bigger output is a 3-percent increase over 2018 in the area earmarked for planting, with a total of 62.8 million hectares planted, the IBGE said.

Rice, corn and soy will remain the three main agricultural products for Brazil, together representing 92.5 percent of the total production and occupying 87.3 percent of the entire planting area, it said.
