LONDON, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The Association of British Chinese Professors (ABCP), an independent organization representing senior Chinese academics working in Britain, held its first annual conference between July 10 and July 12 at the University of Surrey.
Over 100 ABCP members and guests celebrated decades of successful UK-China collaboration in research, education, innovation and cultural exchanges.
At the opening ceremony, Orlando Edwards, regional manager at the British Council, the UK's international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities, said: "It is fantastic to see the ABCP bring together Chinese professors and scholars to share experiences and exchange ideas. I am confident this will make a great contribution to education and research collaboration between the UK and China."
Professor Max Lu, president and vice chancellor of the University of Surrey, highlighted the need for international collaboration to find solutions to the global challenges. He believes that China and the United Kingdom (UK) can collaborate and develop new ideas to make a difference for the global community and to really change the world.
Representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Britain -- Minister Counsellor of Education Wang Yongli and Minister Counsellor of Science and Technology Jiang Sunan -- attended the opening ceremony and congratulated the organizers.
Founded in 2018, the ABCP has already attracted more than 200 members, who represent the highest ranks of Chinese academics working in the UK in various fields.
Wang Jihong, professor at Warwick University and vice president of the ABCP, told Xinhua that increasing numbers of Chinese scholars achieve higher academic degrees, and that the ABCP is dedicated to promoting academic excellence and stimulating collaboration.
"We also aim to develop new talents and provide mentorship to young academics," she said.
