More districts in Zambia need relief food

LUSAKA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of districts requiring relief food in Zambia following poor harvests has increased from 38 to 86, the country's vice-president said on Friday.

Inonge Wina said this was established after the completion of a second national vulnerability needs assessment study by the country's Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

Responding to questions during the vice-president's question and answer session in parliament, the Zambian vice-president said 86 out of the country's 117 districts were in need of relief food.

She, however, maintained that the government will not declare the hunger situation a national disaster until a comprehensive analysis of the situation was conducted.

The Zambian vice-president further assured that the government will ensue that all those in need of relief food were assisted.

Some parts of Zambia are experiencing hunger situation following poor rains during the 2018/2019 farming season.
