China renews yellow alert for rainstorms

BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authorities on Saturday continued a yellow alert for heavy rains in the country's southern regions.

Until 8 a.m. Sunday, rainstorm are expected to hit parts of Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, as well as Tibet and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regions, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

Some regions will experience torrential rain, with precipitation up to 180 mm in parts of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Heavy rain will also be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in some affected regions, the NMC said.

The center advised local governments to prepare for emergency response while recommending outdoor operations be halted in hazardous areas.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
