JAKARTA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia capital city of Jakarta is scheduled to host Formula E racing next year, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on Sunday.
The Jakarta governor's statement came up after he concluded the talks with Formula E co-founders Alexandro Agag and Alberto Longo in Formula E racing series held in New York's Brooklyn on Saturday.
"Thank God, we made it! Jakarta will be one of world's cities to host the prestigious Formula E racing in mid-2020," the governor confirmed in his Instagram social media account.
Anies said the Formula E event in Jakarta would use Street Circuit concept with observation processes related to the race location and its facilities have been completed by the Formula E team on July 8 to 9.
He added that the international racing event would generate some 1.2 trillion rupiah (about 85.6 million U.S. Dollars) of economic activities in the capital city.
The Formula E racing is a prestigious international car racing event comparable to Formula 1. Cars used in Formula E use environmental-friendly electric engines.
Former top Formula 1 racers now race in Formula E, include Felipe Massa, Pascal Wehrlein, Stoffel Vandoorne, Sebastian Buemi and Jean-Eric Vergne.
