TOKYO, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The Tokyo metropolitan government said on Monday that it will next week test measures aimed at easing congestion during the 2020 Olympic Games, when thousands of government staff will not use public transport during the morning rush hour.

From Monday to Friday next week, approximately 10,000 staff working in the metropolitan government office in Shinjuku Ward will be asked not to use public transportation from 8 am to 10 am, either by shifting their work hours or taking leave.

Tokyo's rush hour is notorious, with images of station officials pushing commuters into packed trains seen throughout the world. Based on the effects of this trial, Tokyo's government will decide whether to implement the proposed measures during the Olympics.
