MUMBAI, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Mumbai reported the first suspected swine-flu death of this monsoon season out of the 36 cases reported so far this month by the Indian city's civic hospitals, an officer from the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation said on Monday.
The patient, a 26-year-old woman, was believed to have succumbed to the H1N1 virus on Saturday night after she stopped responding to the treatment.
The patient was suffering from diabetic and also suspected of leptospirosis. She went into acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), leading to her death after she was hospitalized for nearly a week.
The case will be investigated by the death review committee before being counted as an H1N1 death, the officer said.
Till June this year, there have been 237 cases of swine-flu including three deaths.
Swine flu is a respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses that infects the respiratory tract and result in a barking cough, decreased appetite, nasal secretions, and can be transmitted.
