MEXICO CITY, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday said his government so far had received no reports of detentions or deportations after the United States ramped up immigration raids over the weekend.

However, some 1,800 Mexican immigrants are on trial in the United States and could face eventual deportation, he said at his daily press conference.

"As to Mexican deportees, there hasn't been anything out of the ordinary up to now; that is, there haven't been deportations," the president said.

"Should there be deportations, we would be providing options and alternatives," added Lopez Obrador.

Arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants in the United States have dropped 30 percent since June 7, when Mexico made a pact with the United States to "take unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration," in return for a drop of tariff threats and a promise to expedite the processing of asylum claims from its northern neighbor.

The Trump administration on Monday decreed sweeping changes to U.S. asylum policies in a move to curtail the soaring number of Central American asylum seekers who have arrived across the southern border.

Lopez Obrador said the raids were not part of the agreement between the two countries.

Mexico criticized the new regulation, saying it restricts the right to asylum and Mexico would not deport migrants to countries where their lives would be in danger.

The president ruled out sending a diplomatic note to the U.S. government, as suggested by the Mexican Senate.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced at a White House press conference on Friday that his government was planning to arrest immigrants eligible for deportation in 10 cities across the country.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is tasked with searching for immigrant families facing deportation orders.
