XINING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Senior political advisor Bater on Thursday called for stepping up poverty alleviation among ethnic groups with smaller populations in the country.

Bater, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and head of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, made the remarks at a conference in Haidong City, northwest China's Qinghai Province.

He urged all-out efforts in the fight against poverty to ensure that the impoverished people would not have to worry about food and clothing and have access to compulsory education, basic medical services and safe housing.

He said poverty reduction should be well connected with the rural vitalization strategy, calling for proper planning for ethnic work in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period to make sure that not a single ethnic group is left behind in the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
