NAIROBI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Egypt, Togo and Comoros stand in Kenya's way in their campaign to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cameroon.

"With the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations coming to an end on Friday in Cairo, the focus quickly shifts to the next edition set to be staged in Cameroon in 2021 with the draws for the qualifiers conducted after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly," said CAF President Ahmad Ahmad on Friday.

Kenya's Harambee Stars will be seeking to make yet another appearance at the continent's premier football competition after ending their 15-year wait with a below par performance in Egypt, where they lost in the group stage to Senegal and Algeria.

The group phase of the qualifiers will be preceded by a preliminary round involving eight teams determined by the last FIFA rankings. After that, the winners of the four matches will head into the group phase.

Kenya will skip the preliminary rounds. The 48 teams are divided into 12 groups of four teams each and the top two sides from each group will earn a ticket to the 2021 showpiece in Cameroon.

The four preliminary ties will be played in October and the group phase kicks off the following month with two rounds.
