KUNMING, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have arrested three suspects for drug trafficking, with 62.17 kg of methamphetamine seized, the provincial public security department said Sunday.

After receiving a tip-off regarding cross-border drug trafficking on July 8, police in Fengqing County dispatched task forces to Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture and the provincial capital Kunming to investigate the case.

At around 4:00 p.m. on July 10, police found 301 packages of drugs, weighing a total of 62.17 kg, hidden in four portable air compressors from the trunk of a minicar in Mangshi city of Dehong, and captured a suspect on the spot. The other two suspects were caught in Mangshi and Kunming on the same day.

The suspects have been put under criminal detention. Further investigation is underway.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle known for its rampant drug production and trafficking.
