RABAT, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Herve Renard has resigned as coach of Morocco national football team on Sunday, days after his side was knocked out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16 by Benin.
"It is time for me to close this long and beautiful chapter of my life, not without some emotion and sadness, but it was an inevitable decision taken well before AFCON 2019," said Renard in a message posted on his Facebook page.
"Morocco will always remain for me a country with which I lived incredible emotions," he added. "Nearly three-and-a-half years, intense moments shared with players that I sincerely love, a dedicated staff and all the Moroccan fans during this beautiful period," Renard added.
The Frenchman had served as coach Morocco since 2016. He had previously coached Cote d'Ivoire and Zambia national teams, winning the Africa Cup of Nations with both sides.
