LONDON, July 23 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Tuesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.56 percent, or 41.93 points, to close at 7,556.86 points.
Melrose Industries, a London-based company that specialises in buying and improving underperforming businesses, soared 5.07 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. NMC Health and Smurfit Kappa Group increased by 4.00 percent and 3.73 percent, respectively.
Whitbread, a British multinational hotel and restaurant company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 3.03 percent.
