BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official has stressed rectification of problems found during the inspections of a national crackdown on gang crime.

Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting on the inspection on Thursday.

Guo, also head of the leading group of the national crackdown on gangs and organized crimes, said the inspection teams have covered all provincial-level regions after three rounds of inspection, noting that the fight against gang crime has been promoted well.

He asked for more efforts on major clues and cases to root out the "protective umbrellas" behind gang crimes, noting that the cases must be handled in accordance with the law.

Intelligent informant platforms should be better used, Guo said.

He also asked for stepping up the punishment on those sheltering crimes involving pornography, gambling, and drugs.
