U.S. durable goods orders bounce back in June

WASHINGTON, July 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. durable goods orders rose by 2.0 percent in June, following a 2.3-percent decline in May, the Department of Commerce said Thursday.

After seasonally adjusted, new orders for manufactured durable goods in June increased 4.9 billion U.S. dollars to 246.0 billion dollars.

Excluding transportation, new orders grew by 1.2 percent from previous month. Excluding defense, new orders added by 3.1 percent, the department said. Transportation equipment, following two consecutive monthly declines, led the increase, up by 3.8 percent.

New orders for nondefense aircraft and parts in June surged 75.5 percent, following a 52.2 percent slump in May. New orders for defense aircraft and parts in June fell 32.1 percent, following a 20.8 percent drop in previous month.

New orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft, known as "core capital goods," rose 1.9 percent in June, following a 0.3 percent uptick in May. New orders for defense capital goods, meanwhile, declined 16.3 percent, following a 14.1 percent fall in previous month.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods in June increased 1.4 percent to reach 258.2 billion dollars, following a 0.5 percent growth in May. Enditem
