NEW YORK, July 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. singer and rapper Lil Nas X's country-trap hit "Old Town Road" set a new record Monday on Billboard Hot 100, after spending 17 consecutive weeks atop the chart, beating Mariah Carey and Luis Fonsi.

Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" spent 16 weeks on the chart in 1995-1996. Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's "Despacito" achieved the same feat in 2017.

Nas X, 20, released the song at end of 2018. It gained popularity on Tik Tok, a China-made app that has taken the world by storm. The song's many remix versions, its fusion of hip-hop and country, and its iconic music video all contributed to its sustained popularity.
