Czech Republic records lowest unemployment rate in EU28 in June

BRUSSELS, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Among the European Union's 28 member states, the lowest unemployment rate in June 2019 were recorded in Czech Republic (1.9 percent), followed by Germany (3.1 percent), the Union's statistical office Eurostat revealed on Wednesday.

The highest unemployment rates were observed in Greece (17.6 percent in April 2019) and Spain (14.0 percent).

Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate fell in 24 member states and remained stable in Estonia and Poland, while it increased in Sweden (from 6.3 percent to 6.4 percent) and Luxembourg (from 5.6 percent to 5.8 percent).

The largest yearly decreases were registered in Greece (from 19.8 percent to 17.6 percent between April 2018 and April 2019), Cyprus (from 8.3 percent to 6.5 percent), Croatia (from 8.6 percent to 7.1 percent), Ireland (from 5.9 percent to 4.5 percent) and Slovakia (from 6.7 percent to 5.4 percent), according to Eurostat.
