LISBON, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa on Wednesday welcomed the peace deal in Mozambique between the government and the oppositions.

"The Renamo (Mozambican National Resistance) peace deal announced today in Maputo is excellent news for Mozambique and Lusophone Africa. Peace is the best way to development and prosperity. Mozambicans deserve it. Portugal welcomes this news with joy and solid hope for the future," Costa said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi announced that he will sign on Thursday the agreement for the final cessation of military hostilities with Renamo leader Ossufo Momade in the central Gorongosa mountainous region.

Nyusi said Thursday's agreement provides for a formal end to clashes between the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces and the armed wing of the opposition Renamo.
