ZAGREB, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A 36-year-old man allegedly shot and killed six people here on Thursday night before committing suicide, police said on Friday.

Among victims are two men, three women, and a 10-year-old boy. A two-month-old baby was found alive in the house at the crime scene. The gunman committed suicide a few hours later when he was confronted by police.

The motive of the crime is still unknown, the police said on Friday.

Media here reports that the killer was a taxi driver. The victims are all family members of the gunman's partner with whom he had a baby, the only survivor. The 10-year-old boy was the woman's son from the previous marriage. According to the daily newspaper Jutarnji list, the suspect also killed the partner's parents, as well as her sister and the sister's partner.

Zagreb police chief Marko Rasic confirmed on Friday at a press conference that the gunman was in a relationship with the victim and that the two-month-old baby is his.

The killing shocked Croatia and citizens of the capital who don't remember such a crime. Zagreb's mayor Milan Bandic said that Zagreb is a safe city and that the killing is an isolated incident.
