CAIRO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egypt welcomed on Sunday the Sudanese agreement on the constitutional declaration for a new period of transitional government.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed the agreement between Sudan's Freedom and Change Alliance and the Transitional Military Council (TMC), describing the deal as an important step toward achieving security and stability in Sudan.

Egypt fully supports the choices and aspirations of the Sudanese people as well as the state institutions, the statement said, adding Cairo will continue to support the Sudanese people.

The recent steps taken in Sudan, including the agreement on the constitutional declaration and the agreement to form a civilian government, prove that Sudan is back on the constitutional path, the statement noted.

After these recent measures, the suspension of Sudan's membership in the African Union should be lifted, it said.

The AU Envoy to Sudan Mohamed Hacen Lebatt on Saturday announced that Sudan's Freedom and Change Alliance and the TMC reached a full agreement on the constitutional declaration.

Also on Saturday, the alliance said in a statement that the constitutional declaration would be signed after completing its final formulation on Sunday.

According to the constitutional document, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces are led by the army commander who belongs to the sovereignty council, while the Police Forces and the General Intelligence Service are under supervision of the sovereignty council and the council of minters.

The document also stipulates the establishment of a legislative council with 67 percent of seats for the Freedom and Change Alliance and 33 percent for the other opposition parties.
