MUSCAT, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Oman on Tuesday condemned the explosion near the National Cancer Institute in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, killing and injuring dozens.

An official statement by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Oman is renewing its firm stance that rejects violence and terrorism regardless of its causes.

The Omani statement pointed out that the country expresses sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the Egyptian people, and wishes the wounded a speedy recovery.

Earlier on Monday, up to 20 people were killed and 47 others wounded by a huge blast in central Cairo caused by a multi-vehicle crash, Egypt's Health Ministry said.

However, a statement by the Egyptian Interior Ministry said that the car causing a blast has been found containing explosives, and it was meant "to be used in a terrorist operation."
