DUBAI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have allocated 540,000 tons of wheat to Sudan to meet the basic food need for three months, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) announced on Wednesday.

"The first two batches of 140,000 tons of wheat have already been shipped," the ADFD said in a statement carried by the official news agency WAM.

"Both countries are keen to provide all possible support to Sudan to overcome difficult conditions and achieve economic stability and food security," ADFD Director-General Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said.

The food shipment falls within the framework of the 3-billion-U.S. dollar Saudi-UAE joint aid package to support Sudan's economic and financial stability which was announced in April.
