LUSAKA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations refugee agency on Thursday launched an initiative aimed at improving financial inclusion at one of the refugee camps in Zambia.

The Community Connectivity Fund will help in improving digital financial services at Meheba Refugee Settlement, situated in western Zambia.

The fund will support the agency to build on existing interventions to advance the connectivity for refugees at the settlement, said Liv Feijen, a representative from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), at a launching ceremony in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.

She said the UNHCR remains committed to supporting advocacy for better connectivity and digital financial services for refugees, calling for more funding to achieve greater scale and sustainability.

Emmy Kumwenda, head of commercial banking at Standard Bank, said the UNHCR will be able to pay each beneficiary into their mobile money wallet through Airtel Zambia.
