More tourists visit Czech Republic: statistics

PRAGUE, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- In the second quarter of this year, 5.8 million people used accommodation services in the Czech Republic, up 4.9 percent year on year, according to statistics released Thursday by the Czech Statistical Office.

The number of visitors to Czech Republic has been on a steady rise for six years now, with most of the traffic coming into the capital city of Prague, the office said in a statement.

Not only domestic tourists, but also foreign tourists are staying more nights in the country, added the office, indicating that the number of foreign tourists in accommodation facilities in the country during the April-June period rose by 4.8 percent over that of last year.

"Regarding the top 10 nations, we have noted the largest rise in foreigners coming from Germany and France. The number of tourists coming from UK and South Korea has however declined," said Pavel Vancura, director of tourism statistics department of the Czech Statistical Office. The number of South Korean tourists has declined in the second quarter by 4.4 percent.

The most numerous demographic to visit the Czech lands were traditionally the neighboring Germans, with some 570, 000 people, followed by the Slovaks and the Poles, numbering at 200,000 and 187,000 respectively.

The fourth place is that of tourists from China, whose number was 185,781, rising by 1.1 percent over the same period last year. In 2018, a total of 620,000 Chinese tourists visited the Czech Republic, according to the Office.
