LISBON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese cinemas recorded 1.777 million viewers in July, an increase of 28.5 percent over the same month of 2018 and the highest since 2004, according to the data released on Friday by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA).
July is the third consecutive month of sharp increase of movie-goers, following increases of 8 percent and 24 percent in the two previous months respectively, data showed.
The revenue, which reached 9.7 million euros (10.9 million U.S. dollars) in July, is unprecedented with a growth of 31.7 percent compared to the same month of 2018, data showed.
The data also showed that a total of 8.48 million viewers, showing almost 480,000 more people in Portuguese cinemas, recorded for the first seven months of 2019, with an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year.
The revenue for the first seven months this year grew by 5.5 percent to 45.4 million euros.
