France cruise to volleyball win over Slovenia

WARSAW, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The French men's volleyball team received massive boost on Friday beating Slovenia 26-24, 25-20, 25-23 in their first Pool D Olympic qualifying match.

With high offensive efficiency, French star Earvin Ngapeth gave a stunning performance in three-set thriller at the Ergo Arena in Gdansk,

France, prepared by head coach Laurent Tillie, are currently the reining European Champions and placed 10th in the FIVB world rankings.

A total of 24 teams are competing at various venues around the world in the qualifiers as they battle for a place at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Earlier, at the same venue, Poland dismissed Tunisia in straight sets, conceding only 53 total points.

Pool D matches in FIVB Men's Volleyball Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament continues on Saturday, when Poland face France for the second time in the last seven world Olympic qualifying campaigns.

In other action, Slovenia will play Tunisia.
