TAIYUAN, China, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese teenage weightlifter Li Wenwen is hoping to break the women's 87kg clean and jerk world record in next month's World Championships.
The 19-year-old, current holder of the 147kg snatch mark, took an easy win at the second Chinese Youth Games on Saturday, beating the runner-up with a margin of 62kg in total.
"The current world records in women's 87kg in clean and jerk and total are not mine. I'd better break them both as soon as possible," Li told Xinhua with confidence, joking that she just treated the Youth Games as a training session.
"Besides that (to break the world records), my next goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games," she added.
Li Wenwen started her career as a professional weightlifter at 12 years old and has been to various national sports events since she was 18.
Earlier this year, she swept snatch, clean and jerk and total with three golds as well as a world record in the snatch at the Asian Championships in April.
"She should have met the goals set before the game if she's not feeling sick," said her coach Guan Yongmei.
"As a rookie, Li must put on her best performance to earn her entry to the Olympic Games. For now, everything in going smoothly," she said.
The 2019 world weightlifting championships will be held at Pattaya, Thailand on September 18-27.
