WARSAW, Aug.11 (Xinhua) -- Poland's men's volleyball team has celebrated an outstanding victory over Slovenia to secure a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
Before a capacity home crowd in Gdansk, Poland gave an impressive performance beating Slovenia 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21).
The best-selling Polish daily Super Express celebrated with the headline, 'WE HAVE IT! We beat Slovenia and we're going to the Olympic Games!'
The victory completes home teams sweep through Pool D of the intercontinental qualifying tournament.
On Friday, Poland saw off Tunisia in straight sets conceding only 53 total points. Then on Saturday, the Poles stormed to a convincing three-set win over France, their strongest rival in this tournament.
In other action, the first game of Pool D on Sunday saw runners-up France beating Tunisia 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22). In that game, Tunisian player Hamza Nagga - who towers at 196 cm in height- impressed crowds by scooping 23 points.
24 teams have been competing at various venues around the world in the qualifiers as they battle for a place at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
As hosts, Japan has qualified automatically.
