BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stocks closed higher Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.45 percent, at 2,814.99 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.08 percent higher at 8,978.52 points.
The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 362.7 billion yuan (about 51.66 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 380.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumbered losers by 1,289 to 153 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,896 to 211 in Shenzhen.
Stocks in electronics led the gains, while Suzhou Victory Precision Manufacture Co., Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily 10-percent limit to 2.73 yuan a share.
Shares related to non-ferrous metal mining led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.14 percent to close at 1,539.91 points.
