NEW DELHI, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vehicles sales in India recorded a dip for the ninth straight month during July, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday.

According to the SIAM figures, domestic car sales were down by 35.95 percent at 122,956 units as compared to 191,979 units sold in July 2018. Motorcycles' sales during the month declined by 18.88 percent and stood at 933,996 units as against 1,151,324 units during the same month last year.

Similarly, domestic passenger vehicle (PV) sales dropped by 30.98 percent at 200,790 units during July, as against 290,931 units in the same month of the last year.

Sales of commercial vehicles like trucks and buses also recorded a dip of 25.71 percent at 56,866 units last month, as compared with 76,545 units in July 2018.

Overall, the sales of vehicles across all categories registered a decline of 18.71 percent at 18,25,148 units from 22,45,223 units in July 2018, revealed the SIAM data.

Witnessing a slowdown, the auto industry has announced massive job cuts and also curtailed production in the past couple of months. Main reasons being cited for the dip in vehicles sales are introduction of aggregator cabs services like 'Ola' and 'Uber', better transport infrastructure in both cities and villages, and the the country's overall economic slump.
