VIENNA, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Hoher Dachstein mountain is the most popular Austrian mountain to feature in posts from users of social media platform Instagram, according to an analysis by APA-Defacto, a subsidiary of the Austria Press Agency.
It revealed on Tuesday that the popular mountain, located on the border of the states of Lower Austria and Styria, featured on 131,000 posts on the site since its inception in 2010, the most out of the 2,000 mountains in the alpine nation that were analyzed via the so-called "hashtags" the application uses.
The scenic mountain features glacier formations, an ice cave, and numerous picturesque lakes in close proximity. The "Skywalk" elevated viewing platform was also popular amongst Instagram users, the report noted.
The next most popular mountain was the Arlberg on the border between Tyrol and Vorarlberg in the nation's west, with 101,400 posts recorded. The mountain is known in particular for its skiing offerings, and includes the ski resort towns of Lech, Zürs, and St. Anton am Arlberg.
In third place was the Kitzsteinhorn mountain in Salzburg with 92,843 Instagram posts, followed by the nearby Großglockner, the highest of all Austrian mountains at 3,798 meters above sea level, with just over 84,000 posts.
