SANTIAGO, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Universidad de Chile have signed highly rated Uruguayan playmaker Leonardo Fernandez on loan from Mexico's Tigres UANL, the Santiago-based club said on Friday.
The 20-year-old agreed to a six-month loan deal less than two months after joining Tigres from Uruguayan top flight club Fenix.
"This morning, Leonardo Fernandez, officially became a new player of our club and is the last reinforcement for the challenges we will face in this second part of the 2019 season," read a statement on Universidad's official website.
Fernandez is considered one of the brightest young strikers in South America and raised his international profile by scoring four goals in five matches for Uruguay at the Pan American Games in Lima, which ended last week.
The attacking midfielder has ever represented Uruguay at U-15, U-17, U-20 and U-22 level.
He is expected to make his debut for Universidad in their away clash with Union La Calera in Chile's first division on Sunday.
