Over 28 kg of drugs seized in border province Yunnan

KUNMING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Eight suspects were caught and 28.76 kg of drugs seized in four recent drug trafficking cases in southwest China's Yunnan Province, a major front in China's battle against drug crime.

After receiving a tip-off in early July, police in Shidian County, the city of Baoshan dispatched a task force to investigate. They captured three suspects for trafficking 21.59 kg of methamphetamine on July 16 in Yuanjiang County, the city of Yuxi.

Police cracked two drug trafficking cases on July 22 and July 26 respectively in the city of Kunming, with three suspects caught and 6.48 kg of methamphetamine seized.

On Aug. 4, police busted another case in Baoshan. Two suspects were nabbed from a bus and 0.69 kg of heroin was seized.

The suspects have been put under criminal detention. Further investigations into the cases are underway.

Yunnan, which borders the Golden Triangle, is known for its rampant drug production and trafficking.
